Q:Hi, I was wondering if you have the lyrics to Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon - ~ Le Mouvement Final ~?

wolfire13

Sorry, but we don’t have them available yet. However, the DVD has been ordered and when we’re ready to start working on the subs, we’ll be sure to add lyrics too!

Q:Interested in Myu-original storylines, i.e. ones not based on the animanga seasons/villains. Any recommendations on which one to start with? I'm interested in worldbuilding if that helps.

ree-fireparrot

Ooh awesome ask! The musicals you want to watch are the Kaguya ones, the Dracul Series and even though its more of a celebration, it does have an original story: The 10th Anniversary Festival - Sanctuary of Love (Ai no Sanctuary).  Also, in my opinion, the runners up of having an “originalish” storyline would be the two SuperS musicals and The Eternal Legend (Eien Densetsu). While those shows do cover certain arcs, the musicals add enough of their own twists and changes to the story that they practically become an original telling of those arcs on their own.

I’ll break it down the Kaguya and Dracul Series with a tiny synopsis!

First up are the Kaguyas:

  • 1999 Spring - The Legend of Kaguya Island (Kaguya Shima Densetsu)
  • 1999 Summer – The Legend of Kaguya Island (Revised Edition) - Summer Vacation! The Jewel Expedition Party (Kaguya Shima Densetsu (Kaiteiban) - Natsuyasumi! Houseki Tankenta)
  • 2004 Summer - The New Legend of Kaguya Island (Shin Kaguya Shima Densetsu)
  • 2005 Winter - The New Legend of Kaguya Island (Revised Edition) - Marinamoon Final (Shin Kaguya Shima Densetsu (Kaiteiban) - Marinamoon Final)

The story between the original Kaguya Island and the “new” Kaguya Island musicals are similar but they have some differences in plot, a few characters and music. I highly recommend watching both and taking from either or as I find each version adds something to the overall story. Kaguya’s story, to simply put it, is about the Usagi and co. getting stuck on an island while being pursued by Loof Merrow and her band of Pirates looking for the Silver Crystal and a new enemy, Dark Plasman, the personification of a comet who wishes to take the place of Earth. The revised version of the original musicals offers a fun scene of Neo Queen Serenity, King Endymion and Chibiusa in Crystal Tokyo that is worth seeing. :D

Second, is the Dracul Series. We highly recommend that these musicals be watch in order as they are the only ones that actually have some semblance of a continuity (all the other shows are basically stand alones).

  • 2000 Winter - New / Transformation - The Road to Become the Super Soldier (Shin / Henshin - Super Senshi e no Michi - Last Dracul Jokyoku)
  • 2000 Summer Decisive Battle / The Forest of Transylvania - A New Arrival! The Soldiers who Protect Chibimoon (Kessen / Transylvania no Mori - Shin Toujou! Chibimoon wo Mamoru Senshitachi)
  • 2001 Winter - Decisive Battle / The Forest of Transylvania [Revised Edition] - The Enigma of the Ultimate Enemy, Dark Cain - (Kessen / Transylvania no Mori [Kaiteiban] - Saikyou no Kataki Dark Cain no Nazo -)
  • 2001 Spring - Last Dracul Final Chapter - The Seal of the Super Planet Death Vulcan (Last Dracul Saishuu Shou - Chou Wakusei Death vulcan no Fuuin)

If I try to give a “brief” synopsis on the Dracul series, I might end up writing a mini essay. Sooo..lets just go with the Dracul series features a smorgasbord of monsters and mythology from vampires to undead serial killers to werewolves to heavy Judaic references to the mysterious 10th planet, Vulcan. This series is probably some of the darkest material in Sailor Moon and sometimes most complicated storyline. (Just note that the the 2001 Winter revised edition of TnM acts as both a revision and sequel to help tie the story into the 4th show, so don’t skip it!)

Annnnd that got really long but I hope you end up watching these wonderful shows! They are probably my favorites of all the older shows. :)

@ree-fireparrot, I’ll be curious to see what you think after giving them a view!

Q:Apologies if you guys have answered this question before, I couldn't find it in the tags! What's your take on Saturn's Death Reborn/Death Ribbon Revolution attack name? I've seen arguments for both, and both the current official translations use 'Ribbon'. I've enjoyed the translations/subs you've put out, and am a big fan of the trivia you've posted in the past, and so was wondering how you would translate it, if given the chance! Thank you!

rmnoffs

It’s probably supposed to be “Death Reborn Revolution”

The Japanese is:  デス・リボーン・レボリューション

“Desu Riboon Reboryuushon”

In general Japanese spelling conventions, uually the long “o” in Riboon is derived from the English word “Reborn” while “ リボン “ribon” with a short o is used for Ribbon.

Cyprine and Ptilol, in the very same arc have an attack that uses this short “o”  called “リボン・バスター” (ribon basutaa). So we know “ribon” and “riboon” are probably two different things. With Cyprine’s attack, the use of ribbons is an essential part of the attack while in Saturn’s attack, it’s not necessarily as important and seems to be there more for stylistic purposes. So we have stronger reason to believe it’s Cyprine who has the “ribbon” and Saturn who has the “reborn”, “Reborn” doesn’t quite fit Cyprine’s attack very well.

Additionally Naoko gives us a set of Japanese characters to help Japanese readers understand what is meant by Saturn’s move, these characters appear for some attacks with the purpose of assisting Japanese readers who might not be familiar with the English-derived words. These are not necessarily literal…

For example: Dead Scream is given “ 破滅喘鳴 “ (literally, Destruction Stridor), it’s not identical, but the gist is the same thing.

For Death ??? Revolution it’s: 死世界変革 literally “Death World Revolution”.

From this, we can get a clear sense of being “reborn”, any reformation of death is likely to have an aspect of rebirth.

However, there is no indication at all of any words that could connect well to “ribbon”.

I hope that answers your question

Q:Will you guys be working on the Amour Eternal subs soon? I really appreciate how you do hard subs instead of soft subs. It's a lot easier to download onto my computer. Thank you!!!!

Anonymous

Unfortunately I can’t say for certain at this time. I know Akiko is very busy with work as am I with work and real life stuff going on (hence all the queued posts). There’s a chance we might not get to it until the DVD comes out. I’m sorry I can’t give a definite answer right now but I don’t want to give a yes or a no until we see how things play out over the next month or so for us. ^^;

I’m glad that our hard subs are working out for you and thank you for watching!

Q:I saw that you mentioned that your personal favorites didn't win the poll! Who are yours? Mine is Marina.

Anonymous

Usually when I’m forced to pick, I end up going with MiyukiMoon but I really do love all 4 equally.  Akiko is a big fan of FuminaMoon.  I know she tends to be the least favorite in the fandom, but I find her to be very elegant and portrays an excellent post-Stars Usagi. Her performance in the Kaguya musicals is phenomenal!

Q:What musicals have the Amazoness Quartet, they're not in the cast list for SuperS but I've seen pictures thanks.

Anonymous

Thanks for your message.

You’re looking for the Summer 2000/Winter 2001 musicals “The Forest of Transylvania”.

http://seaofserenity.net/seramyu/musical-special-downloads/

Fair warning though, these musicals are the sequel to the Winter 2000 “Overture of Last Dracul”.

Q:What's the difference between Eien Densetsu (Revised Edition) – The Final First Stage ~Final Day Performance~ and Eien Densetsu (Revised Edition) – The Final First Stage ~Final Day Performance~ Complete Recording? I was watching Eien Densetsu Kaiteiban Hozonban after I finished rewatching first stage and they mentioned a complete recording. Is there stuff missing from the Final Day Performance that's in the complete recording? :s

greenhcart-deactivated20200816

This is a bit of a mouthful and I’m not entirely sure I understood the question but as far as I understand it is that the Hozonban suggests there are four:

Eien Densetsu

Eien Densetsu Kaiteiban

Eien Densetsu Kaiteiban Final Day

Eien Densetsu Kaiteiban Final Day Complete Recording

From my understanding, the third and fourth are one and the same. The Complete Recording is the one we have on our website and I do not think there is another version of the Final Day. The Complete Recording includes final bows, appearances by Naoko Takeuchi, Kayoko Fuyumori and Akiko Kosaka as well as an additional service number [La Moon] and a special poem by Anza and Ayako.

Perhaps the Hozonban meant to suggest that there was a difference between the regular “Kaiteiban” and the “Final Day Complete Recording”?

I may be wrong but this is how I believe it is.

euribear:

seaofserenitysubs:

I feel this is something that is not made clear enough:

Sailor Astarte is the Sailor Soldier for Planet Vulcan!

If she’s the Sailor Guardian for Planet Vulcan why isn’t she called Sailor Vulcan?

Why Sailor Astarte?

For that matter, why Sailor Kakyuu and not Sailor Kinmoku?

Spoilers:

Sheba Shingetsu Astarte shares a split personality with Phoenician goddess Astarte, Dark Cain enters this body. Vulcan does the same trying to save Sheba from Cain. This influence of Vulcan + Astarte —> Sailor Astarte. Astarte is the dominant personality over both Vulcan and Cain. It’s also there to prevent the audience fro linking Sheba to Vulcan too soon. Astarte herself is unaware of Vulcan as well, only recognising herself as “Tenth Soldier from Behind the Sun”. So “Astarte” makes sense as there’s not many other options.

At one point in the musical, Sheba asks Usagi if there even a star called “Astarte”, Usagi insists there is but Sheba insists that something is very strange about the situation.

Poor Sheba has four personalities fighting inside her, even more than Hotaru!

Basically what seems to be Sheba vs. Astarte at the start of the show is really Vulcan vs. Cain.

As for Kakyuu, its less clear but Naoko Takeuchi seems to be less interested in matching names to planets at this point (Galaxia, Phi, Chi, Lethe, Mnemosyne, Star Fighter, Star Maker and Star Healer are never referred to as planets either). Maybe Sailor Kinmoku  didn’t sound good or maybe she had some idea about the origin behind the Sailor Starlights and Kakyuu’s unusual names altogether and it never got into the story.

Possibly also because Kakyuu does refer to a planetary object called a “bolide” in English.

Q:Regarding Another Story and someone to do the technical insertion, I think the best person for the job would be Gideon Zhi, of Aeon Genesis. Don't know if he's got the time or inclination, but if one presents the idea with half the work already done, it couldn't hurt to ask.

sagelylegs

Thanks for that!

We’ll keep that in mind!
